An exiting opportunity to explore the darker side of
Victorian London by combining documentary study, site
specific visits and following in the footsteps of one
of the most notorious unsolved cases on the Victorian
era. This tour can also include visits to the Old Bailey
and to the Clink prison. Our standard package offers
bed and breakfast accommodation at a Youth Hostel. You
can choose whether to include return coach transport
from your school and use your coach throughout your
stay in London or to make your own arrangements for
transport to the city when we will include Underground
passes for the duration of the tour. We can also arrange
for special rates on rail tickets for groups should
this be required. |

| Sample Itinerary :
Day 1: An early departure from school will ensure you
arrive in London in time to make the most of your stay.
A visit to the famous London Dungeons (cost not included)
will reveal the experiences of prisoners through the
centuries and the conditions that many endured before
trial and punishment. You may wish to take a circular
cruise on the River Thames, (cost not included), where
you can have a commentary passing such sites as The
Globe Theatre and the London Eye. You will also follow
the route taken by many prisoners to the infamous '
Traitor's Gate' at the Tower of London, the oldest prison
in London. The Embankment and riverside area of the
Thames was a well known haunt for criminals, 'dens of
thieves' were housed in the crowded conditions on the
south bank. Here you can also visit The Clink prison
(entry cost not included) We can arrange for evening
meals at Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Café or the Hard
Rock Café (cost not included)
Day 2: In the morning depart for the Public Records
Office at Kew for a workshop on the primary sources
for the Jack the Ripper case. Working with experts from
the PRO newspaper articles, police reports, statements
and other documents related to the investigation can
be examined and discussed. In the afternoon return to
central London for a guided walk to the sites where
the Ripper carried out his crimes or a general walk
following the 'darker' side of Victorian London. In
the evening you may wish to include a flight on the
London Eye or take in a performance at one of the London
Theatres (cost not included)
Day 3: After breakfast check out from your accommodation.
You could opt to visit the public galleries of the Old
Bailey to see the court where many notorious cases were
tried. Access to the gallery can be limited and subject
to the cases running at the time, access may be denied
to younger students. In the afternoon your group could
have some free time for shopping in Covent Garden or
elsewhere before departing for your return journey to
school. |

Old Bailey We will also include a guided 'Ripper
Walk' walk from one of a number of options available. |
