| Sample Itinerary :
Day 1: Your coach will collect your
group at school and take you to Dover for a short channel
crossing to France. Travel onwards to your accommodation
arriving in the evening.
Day 2: A day at the 'Euro Space Centre'
(entry costs included). The Centre contains many fascinating
exhibits related to the exploration of space. Students
can go aboard a full-scale mock-up of the American Space
Shuttle. Ariane 4 and the European Ariane 5 launchers
are also displayed, as well as a replica of the Russian
space station MIR. There is also the opportunity to
see the European space laboratory, Columbus, and the
Artemis communication satellite. There are audio-visual
experiences, cinemas and a crazy space ride! Students
can have the opportunity to experience the sensations
of space travel in the Amicitia simulator. The sensations
of a space launch, orbiting, docking with a space station
and a landing are a valuable insight into the life of
an astronaut. Students can also experience the moon
walk chair, the multi-axis chair and the micro-gravity
simulator which form part of an astronauts training.
A workshop on the building and launch of your own rocket
is included. Please note: The Euro Space Centre is closed
on Mondays.
Day 3: This morning after breakfast
you check out of your hotel. Visit the Genk Planetarium
where you can see the telescope in the observatory and
have a presentation on the Hubble Telescope. As an alternative,
you may wish to consider visiting La Coupole at St.
Omer, just south of Calais. La Coupole contains exhibitions,
re-constructions and original artefacts relating to
the development of rocket engineering from the V1 and
V2 rockets of World War II through to modern rocket
technology. Take an afternoon ferry and return to school.
|
| Excursions : The main
focus of this tour is your visit to the Euro
Space Centre in Transinne Belgium. You can choose
to visit either the Genk
Planetarium (sorry the site is only in Flemish)
or the V2 rocket base in St Omer, France, La
Coupole (entry costs are not included). |
