Our expert guide tells the story of Operation Market Garden, a failed Allied attempt to break through German lines at Arnhemin the occupied Netherlands during World War II in September of 1944. The name of our tour is taken from British Lt.Gen. Frederick Browning, deputy commander of the First Allied Airborne Army, who told Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery before the operation, "I think we may be going a bridge too far."
On day two we visit the Airborne monument at Heelsum. Travel via the Lion Root to Nijmagen, visiting the John Frost Bridge, Oosterbeek Cemetery, Lonsdale Church, Baskeyfield VC Memorial and the British Airborne Museum at Hartenstein.
On day three we visit Amsterdam. Here you will visit Anne Frank’s House. The family went into hiding during July 1942 using hidden rooms in her father Otto Frank's office building and her diary documents her experiences hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. While in Amsterdam you will also have the opportunity for sightseeing and shopping and to join our optional Canal cruise. On our fourth day we travel to the Dutch National War and Resistance Museum at Overloon, National Liberation Museum and War Memorial at Groesbeek and the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.
Your Hotel
You will stay for one night in Belgium and three nights in Holland. All hotels used have well furnished en-suite bedrooms as well as a comfortable bar and a dining room where your included continental breakfast will be served throughout your stay.
Your Itinerary
Day 1 - Journey to your overnight hotel in Belgium.
Day 2-4 - Journey to your base for the next three nights.
Included full day excursions.
Day 5 - Journey home.
